Hi, another three acts from my mind! As I don’t use social media, this is the best way to stay updated on ways to interact with my practice. Please pass this on to someone you think would enjoy the work. Subscribe and read previous newsletters here.
Act One, Say Hi!
If you live near the Seacoast of NH and ME or fancy a road trip, come to Chases Garage on Saturday, December 7th, to check out the annual Holiday Sale.
“This event will showcase some of our most talented local artists, students, and friends. It features artwork and handmade items in a broad range of media, including ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, fibers, and more!”
I’ll have my studio open from 10 am to 5 pm, selling playscripts, prints, clothing, and zines.
Michael Rodriguez Torrent will also be sharing my space for the day, and he will have a selection of his photography for sale. Tis the Season!
Act Two, Create Together
Preparations have begun with the staff at Coe-Brown Northwood Academy for my upcoming playwriting residency. I am delighted to be digging into a new project with eager students.
The eight-week residency was awarded an Arts Education Grant from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts. The funding supports creating and staging a docudrama script based on source material from the ongoing legal case Juliana v. Us, in which 21 young Americans filed a constitutional climate lawsuit against the U.S. government in 2015.
Their complaint asserts that the government's affirmative actions that caused climate change violated the youngest generation’s constitutional rights to life, liberty, and property and failed to protect essential public trust resources. The plaintiffs are from diverse racial, cultural, and geographic backgrounds, demonstrating the subject's universality while being imminently relevant to the concerns of students at Coe-Brown who will participate in the artist-in-residency and those who will experience the culminating performances that will take place at the NH Educational Theatre Guild’s Regional Festival.
Do you want to bring playwriting experiences to your community of students, residents, colleagues, or collaborators?
I am available for workshops, residencies, and creative facilitation where we co-create participatory mission-driven experiences that tackle the messy realities of the world through curiosity, collaboration, and creativity.
Act Three, Learn Together
In my previous letter, I described my recent application to NEFA’s Public Art Learning Fund, which would support my time at Jacob’s Pillow’s Curriculum in Motion Institute. This ten-month program started in October, and it turns out that you can turn something imagined into something tangible as I have been awarded $3000 to…
“…support the development of Social Dance in Public Spaces. This choreographic and participatory project aims to bring more opportunities for social dance to public spaces in New Hampshire.”
If you are interested in joining me on my learning journey by collaborating with me or inviting me to share the delights of Scottish Country Dancing with you and your community, then hit that button below and drop me a little note!
I have more great news on awards, completed films, and ways to get involved, but I’m a stickler for structure, so three acts are all you are getting. It would be best if you got on with your day, but thanks for spending time with me.
More from Make Create More on the first Tuesday of the new year; I hope the season is filled with light and love for you!
Warm Regards,
